The original deed to this house was registered 22nd March 1887 and was known as Athlone
until 1925. On the 22nd April 1948 it was sold to Charles Cliffe Lawton (born 8th January 1906)
for five thousand five hundred pounds and he renamed it Cliffe House. It is on record that
Robert Cherryman then bought the house in 1964 and renamed it Murambi House which is Tshona
for Light or House of Happiness.
Murambi was officially registered as a retirement home in 1966. Robert Cherryman passed away
in 1984 to leave his wife to manage the home until August 1988. It was then sold to Adelino and Maria
de Lima who further developed and upgraded Murambi House to its present form.
